FAQ

What currency is accepted on Tortola?

The U.S. dollar is the standard currency of the British Virgin Islands.  Major credit cards are accepted everywhere.  ATMs are available but not always reliable, so come prepared.

What do I need to know about driving on Tortola?

Stay on the left side of the road!

Do I need to bring any electrical adapters?

If you're traveling from the U.S., you're all set.

What clothes should I bring?

The dress code on the island is very casual:  shorts, t-shirts, sundresses, sandals, flip-flops!  At some restaurants, long slacks for men would be appropriate, but mostly shorts are fine.  No need for a tie or jacket.  Leave your high heels and expensive jewelry at home.

How do I get to Tortola?

Our preferred route is to fly into St. Thomas (STT) and take the ferry from Charlotte Amalie Ferry Terminal to West End (Tortola) Ferry Dock.  It's about a 45 minute ferry ride and costs approximately $35 one way.  Alternatively, fly into Beef Island (EIS) and take about a 50 minute taxi ride to West End.

Will my cell phone work on Tortola?
More than likely you'll be able to use your cell phone on the island, but watch your roaming as local rates are very high.  AT&T works well at Limin' House.  There is a phone available at the house for local calls only.
Do I need to bring towels or linens?
We supply linens (towels, sheets, blankets), paper goods (toilet paper, paper towels), and kitchen supplies (pots, pans, utensils, dish soap, etc.).  Often there is a supply of sunscreen and bug repellent as well.
